Life on earth
is made of units called cells. |
Some life forms, such as bacteria
and yeast, are made of single cells. More complex life forms,
including plants, animals and humans, are made of large numbers
of cells of different types. |
| For example, our bodies contain
billions of nerve cells, skin cells, muscle cells and many more. |
We are studying human cells to
try and understand how they work and how they are affected by
disease. In particular, we focus on the nucleus of the cell.
This is a specialised compartment in which the DNA blueprint,
containing all the information that makes up the entire cell,
is stored. |
